Benefits of the Autel MD802 Code Reader
As we continue to talk about the Autel MD802 code reader, you will find out that this is a great tool with some amazing features. So, if you deal with different vehicles in your car repair shop or home garage and want a scanner that can help you read and erase error codes, as well as perform some extra functions, this is an ideal scanner to have.
Compact and lightweight design
Some scan tools are a burden to have or carry due to their size or weight. This is not the case with the Autel MD802 scanner. The scan tool measures 14.6 x 3.9 by 8.7 inches. In addition, it weighs around 3 pounds, which means it is lightweight. The rubber cover offers a nice grip and protects the scanner from impact. With such features, using this scan tool is made easy.
The Autel MD802 has extensive vehicle coverage of 1996 and newer domestic, European, and Asian vehicles. Additionally, it performs deep vehicle system coverage for all present electronic systems and access to chassis, body, onboard communication modules, and powertrain. Some of the car brands that this device covers are GM, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, BMW, Benz, Jaguar, Honda, Kia, Nissan, Maserati, Romeo, Renault, Audi, etc.
Wide range of functions
Despite being sold at an unbeatable price, the Autel MaxiDiag MD802 diagnostic scanner offers a wide range of functions. It quickly reads and clears error codes, performs full OBD2 diagnostics, and special functions such as retrieving I/M readiness status, live data reading, viewing vehicle information, freeze frame data, DTC lookup, oil reset, modules present, EPB service, and O2 monitor test. It also performs advanced functions such as enhanced OBD2 mode 6. With such functions, this is a great tool for professional mechanics or car repair shops.
There is no doubt that this device is very easy to use. It features a compact and sturdy design. The color screen is very clear and displays all the info from your vehicle quickly and clearly. It also comes with multiple languages, which makes using it to be a breeze. Furthermore, it has a single button that enables you to read and clear codes at the same time.
Fast reading capacity
The code reader may not have an Android operating system or quad-core processor like most high-end Autel scanners, but it is still very fast in operation. This scanner is enabled to read several codes at the same instant. Also, it has the ability to clear both manufacturer-specific and generic codes.
Sturdy carrying case
Just like many other Autel diagnostic code readers, the Autel MaxiDiag MD802 automotive scanner comes with a sturdy carrying case. This makes storage to be easy as well as transportation of the device. The case protects the scanner from quick wear and tear when it is exposed to the elements. It is also more secure in the case than when placed in the backpack as it is sturdier.
Free software update
The device is promoted as having a lifetime of free updates. Buyers should note that there is nothing like lifetime free updates and upgrades, as the gadget comes with one year of free updates and upgrades. Therefore, after one year, you will have to pay for updates or upgrades.
One-year warranty and support
The Autel MaxiDiag MD802 scan tool is a reliable tool as it is provided by one of the leading scan tool brands in Autel. In addition, the manufacturer offers the user a year warranty. So, there is nothing to worry about as your investment is secured. If the product comes with a defect in material or workmanship, you can get it replaced or repaired.
On top of that, they have an excellent customer support team whom you can contact if you have a challenge.
Setbacks of the MD802 scan tool
It has compatibility problems. The device is not compatible with all the vehicles made and models it states to be. Instead, contact Autel support to know if it will function on your vehicle’s make and model.
The Autel MaxiDiag MD802 product is wrongly advertised as having free lifetime updates. In the real sense, the scanner comes with one year of free updates. This information is misleading, and many users find it inconvenient as the fee of updating or upgrading the device is costly.
Setting up the device is tedious and cumbersome. You will have to update the device once you buy it, which takes a lot of time before it is ready to use. Registration is easy and quick, but updating or upgrading the device takes a lot of time.
The scan tool cannot be updated on MAC. In short, it is not compatible with Apple. This may be a huge hindrance to some users.

can this tool divorce a cd/radio from a 2007 Saab 9-3 and marry it to my own? do i need more than the VIN numbers to do this?
A non-divorced unit is junk as it cannot be re-married to another car. However, Talk to your dealer only they can give a proper solution for this.

New 2019 Maxdiag elite 802 does not show jaguar XE i4 20T petrol models in european tab only V6 &v8 F type.
advertising says comprehensive for european models including Jaguar.
Wait for the next product update. It takes a little bit of time to support the latest model.
Will this for for Mercedes? More specifically a Mercedes vito 112cdi 2002
I own a Autel Maxidiag Elite MD802 scanner. My question is: will this scanner give the quantitative threshold(s) measured against and the “out of spec value” when there is a stored code which turns on the check engine light? If it will how is this information accessed? Examples would be as followed:
P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (gross leak/no flow)
P0442 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
P0171 System too Lean (bank 1)
P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1
Hi Stephen, Just checking if you have the original software. I have updated mine last year and since the update i no longer can see live data. I have spoken to Autel and have been advised that they dont have the original software and only to try to find another unit and copy the software.
I tried a maxidiag elite on a 2016 Toyota avensis and it wouldn’t give me the choice of the cars engine which is 2ww will this be supported with an update thank you
Updates are free for life. So update it and check the result.
But, I am not finding Avensis in their MD802 Vehicle Coverage list.
on some cars you have to do a scan and the engine may come up when you do that
Will md802 do GM air conditioning system
in the article you say that you have to pay for updates while it was true it isn’t anymore i bought mine more than 5 years ago and have had free upgrades ever since they scrapped the paid subscription not long after but the thing i don like when i first bought it for each manufacturer they had the badge logo for each of them to get into the diagnostic for manufacturer each now it resembles a 80s video game

Can you register new battery for BMW e90 series?

Will it read all 68 modules?
Eg finding faults in the ASK unit and CAS door lock systems?
Will it program a key on a 2006 Citroen c3 pluriel?
Hi Will this work on Renault Clio mk3 2007 1.4 petrol
Although this was a good tool in it’s time, the MaxiDiag MD802 is no longer being updated by the manufacturer. I was told this be Autel themselves. It is still currently being sold, however it makes no sense to purchased a unsupported device, especially at the current price point.
Just FYI, the last update for the MD802 was in 2018, at least for Toyota and Lexus. The current version is V6.20 (this is with Maxi PC Suite version V1.31 which is the latest version of the updating software). A tool without updates becomes useless quickly.
